We recently sent an email update to all active monthly and quarterly subscribers that our gear box subscription service has come to an end. This applies to both of our monthly and quarterly Obsidian subscription box services.
The email was sent on October 18th, 2022, but in case you missed it, here is the information it included along with a farewell message from the Cairn Crew:
Dear Adventurer,
It’s been almost 8 years since the idea for Cairn was hatched. The premise was simple, use the subscription box platform to allow outdoor enthusiasts like you and I to discover awesome new products. Our hope was that through the discovery of these products you’d be inspired to get outside. At Cairn (now part of Outside), we’ve always held the belief that being outside fuels the soul.
No question - these last 8 years have been quite the ride. Millions of products shipped all over the world to tens-of-thousands of customers. Many of you have been with us since the beginning, and for that we thank you. We hope we kept our end of the deal by delivering awesome products and inspiring you to get out and find new adventures.
As they say, all good things must come to an end. And the Cairn subscription box program is no different. As Cairn integrates into Outside it’s been decided to phase out the subscription box program. Your Monthly October Box will be the last box in your subscription.

Which month will be the last box?
We sent the final boxes in October.
I prepaid for boxes months in advance past October, will I get a refund?
Yes, your refund was already processed on October 17, 2022. Please allow a few days for the refund to reach your bank.
What if I have an issue with the October box?
If your October box was damaged or lost in transit, missing items, includes defective items, or is an exact duplicate, please reach out to us here.
I purchased a Cairn gift box subscription, what now?
October is the last box for whom you gifted the subscription to. If there were any remaining months of boxes left over, you have been refunded for the appropriate number of boxes. The refund was processed on October 17, 2022. Please allow a few days for the refund to reach your bank.
I received the boxes as a gift, what now?
October is the last box you will receive. If there were any remaining months left over for your gift subscription, the individual that purchased/gifted you the subscription has been refunded.
